Far-removed relationship to Dennis Morgan Hydrick: great-granduncle's wife's grandniece
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Martha Farmer McSherry, a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16th after a brief illness at the age of seventy two.
Born in Jackson, MS and a resident of Crystal Springs most of her life, she graduated from Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana Monroe) which led to an almost thirty year career as a pharmacist with Mississippi State Hospital. She spent her retirement years reading, travelling, and enjoying time with her beloved family and pets.
Undoubtedly, her proudest accomplishment in life was raising her only daughter from childhood into an independent and successful professional. Her little girl went on to become her best friend in adulthood, and remained by her side until the very end. She cherished their special relationship, and her influence, love, and wisdom will be sorely missed.
Martha is survived by her loving daughter Melissa McSherry Langlois, Ed.D (Jeremy) and adored grandson, Birch Davis Langlois of Mandeville, LA. She is also survived by her sisters, Pam Biggs (Frank) of Madison, MS and Rita Schaper (Gary) of Dickinson, TX, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Davis Clyde Farmer, her mother, Mary Burney Farmer, Melissa's father, Robert Morrison McSherry, and her sister, Charlotte Dickson.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life, which will be held at her Crystal Springs home on Sunday, July 30th from 2:00 to 4:00.
Martha was a lifelong lover of animals, and was never without a canine companion.
Relationship to Dennis Morgan Hydrick: 1st cousin 5 times removed
~~~~~~~~~~~~
On 23 June 1850, Martha Elizabeth Shaver (fifth child of Jacob and Thurza) married to Andrew
Jackson "Jack" Tucker (son of Robert Tucker and Sarah Pelphrey).

In 1852, Martha Elizabeth and her husband Jack Tucker headed to California. He reportedly deserted
her en route or was forced to leave the wagon train for mistreating her. She gave birth to a son, Alfred
Lafayette ("Lafe") in Green River, Utah Territory (now in Sweetwater County, Wyoming) in July of that
year, and proceeded on to California. She married in California in 1856 to James Ervin Burnham, a
miner, and settled in Calaveras County (in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, not far from where the
Gold Rush began just a few years earlier). She was joined in California soon afterwards (probably in
1856 or 1857) by her brother John P. Shaver (Jacob and Thurza's seventh child), who also tried his hand
at mining.
