From this obit we learn:
Bertha was his first wife who preceded him in death, 1941
He married Ethyl in 1942...
  Yet Tillman and Ethyl's daughter, Maggie, was born in 1916 (per FindAGrave.com) - (presumably before he married Bertha)
He had 3 surviving sons and 2 had preceded him in death - I only list four in my records
This obit states he was survived by 6 daughters however it only lists 5. I list 6 in my records

"Gone But Not Forgotten

Ozark, Ark., March 23, 1919

In memory of our dear mother, Mrs. Theresa Malinda Kizer, who departed this life March 3, 1919, at her son's Mr. Taylor Kizer. She had been a sufferer for about 15 years, but gradually grew worse until at last her spirit took its flight to the great beyond where there is no sorrow, pain nor death. Oh, how she did suffer, no one can tell. I was at her bedside a great deal and all was done that loving hands could do, but all in vain. She knew every thing until about one hour before she died; if she had lived until the 13th day of March she would have been 83 years old. She leaves one brother and one sister; six children and a host of grandchildren and friends. Four of her children were present during her sickness and death. Mrs. M. J. Loyd of Jenks, Okla. and Mrs. Laura Anderson, of Floydada, Texas, came, but too late. She formerly made her home at her son's, John Kizer, but on the 8th of January she was taken to Taylor Kizer's to stay awhile. She visited around among her children.

Funeral service was conducted by Brother Jim McClellan, at the Bourland graveyard, where a large number was gathered to pay the last respect; after that she was laid to rest beside her hus-band, who departed this life 24 years ago. To know her was to love her. Loving words and ad-vice she would give her children and grandchildren.

Weep not, children, mother can't come back to you, but you can meet her where there is on more good-byes.

She was born in Washington, Ark.; moved to Franklin county when about 13 years of age. Her mother died when she was a small girl and she stayed with her father until she was about 22 years old.

. . . – Written by one who loved her."

She was buried next to her husband William M. Kizer in the Bourland Cemetery in Cravens community.

Of Thurza Malinda's six brothers, family tradition says that five fought for the Confederacy. However, her brother Joseph Phenius (who married William Kizer's sister Nancy) enlisted with Company K of the Kansas Infantry (Union) on 14 December 1863. The family story is that Nancy encouraged him to fight for the Union side in order to get a pension (figuring they would win the war). Joseph's father Jacob Shaver reportedly disowned him as a result. Joseph was mustered out on 17 June 1865 in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas and never did return to live in Franklin County.

Relationship to Dennis Morgan Hydrick: 2nd cousin 7 times removed

From Commemorative Biography Record of Central Pennsylvania, J.H. Beers & Co., 1898, page 230

His [George Alson Shaffer's] grandfather, John Adam Shaffer, was born in Berks county, Penn., October 31, 1752, and did gallant service in the Revolutionary army. He was second lieutenant of a company of Associators, during the campaign of Trenton and Princeton in 1776-77, and was noted for his Herculean fame, being the strongest man in the company.

He came from York county, Penn., with a brother, Nicholas, and settled in Brush Valley about the beginning of the present century, purchasing the interest of Valentine Ertle's in a tract of land one-half mile east of Madisonburg, where he passed his remaining days, his death occurring January 14, 1840.

He was married in York county to Elizabeth Klinefelder, a native of that county, born December 27, 1760. She died in November, 1835, and the remains of both were interred at Madisonburg [Lutheran & Reformed Cemetery]. They had eleven [tombstone says 13] children, of whom the following record is given: John died in Miles township, Centre county; Michael in Walker township, Centre county; George in Indiana; Jacob in Ohio; Adam and Samuel in Pennsylvania; Barbara in Ohio; Catherine in York county, Penn.; Lizzie in Indiana; Eve in Venango county, Penn., and Magdalena in Ohio.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is part of an article by a Prof. Meyer which was stated to be "a continuation of a few selections from Prof. Meyer's biographical sketches of the first settlers of Brush Valley" ~DMH
JOHN ADAM SCHAEFFER (Captain) imigrated into Centre county in 1801, and purchased Valentine Ertle's interests in a lease for the tract on which his son John A. Schaeffer now lives - east of Madisonburg half a mile. Part of a barn which he erected in 1804 is still standing and used.
Mr. Schaeffer was a soldier in the Revolutionary war with the rank of Captain. What battles his company was in could not be ascertained. Philip Meyer, also an early settler, had belonged to his company. Captain Schaeffer was a man of Herculean frame and strength, but never abusive. It is said he was the strongest man in his company and Philip Meyer the best wrestler.
He and Nicholas Schaeffer were brothers; was born in Barks (Berks?) county, Oct. 31, 1752, died Jan. 14, 1840, lies buried in the Lutheran and Reformed graveyard at Madisonburg. Children: George; Michael, ex - Sheriff Schaeffer's father; John A., born Nov. 22, 1796; Jacob; Samuel. Some of the older boys were grown to maturity when the family came to the valley. Samuel and John A. are still living; the latter is eighty - five, and gave a number of these items. The daughters are all dead. They were Catharine, Barbara, Lizzie, Eva and Magdalens. The Schaeffers of Madisonburg and vicinity are descendants of Captain John A. Schaeffer. There are some living int Nittany valley, and some in the western States.
Jacob settled in the Knox Township area of Columbiana County around 1804, just when Ohio was being settled. His first marriage was to Margaret, last name possibly Conrad. That marriage was on January 27, 1814. They were the parents of 3 daughters & 1 son. Margaret and a young child were killed by lightning on June 1, 1822. It could be assumed that their daugher Esther, who was born in 1816, may have been the young child killed with Margaret. There has been no other information found on Margaret or Esther.
General Notes: Wife - Minnie Allene Reid
Mrs. M. Allene Reid Koettel of Searcy departed this life on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 85. She was born May 9, 1927, in Beedeville, the first child of Henry David Reid, Sr. and Ida Mae Melton Reid.
Miss M. Allene Reid married Mr. Calvin Charles Koettel on December 2, 1944, at the home of Mary Frances and Bud Fields in Beedeville. The couple made their home in Remmel. During their years in Arkansas, Mrs. Koettel worked at Victor Metal, Brown's Shoe Factory and Wal-Mart. They moved several times over the years between Arkansas and Iowa, as they accepted transfers with Mr. Koettel's position at Victor Metal. During their stay in Iowa, she became a floral designer and worked at Frank's Florist in Iowa City, Iowa. After Mr. Koettel's death in 1976, Mrs. Koettel moved to Searcy. There, she resumed working at Wal-Mart. Because of her straightforward attitude, she and Mr. Sam Walton forged a lasting friendship. Everyone, including Mr. Sam Walton, could always depend on Mrs. Koettel to say what she meant and to mean what she said. Often it was said if you do not want to know what she really thinks, do not ask.
Mrs. Koettel's led a full life. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, making candy, and reading. Mrs. Koettel loved her roses, and was known for making the best peanut brittle and divinity. Mrs. Koettel was a devoted member of the College Street Church of Christ in Searcy. Every morning for well over 20 years, she began her day by reading her Bible. Mrs. Koettel would read the entire Bible through in less than a year and then start again. Mrs. Allene Koettel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She proudly bore the title of "Matriarch of the Reid Family" and held steadfastly to her independence and strong-minded, straightforward ideals. Mrs. Koettel will be missed by many family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Calvin Charles Koettel, two brothers, Henry Davis Reid, Jr. and Ray Reid, two sisters, Fay Reid, and Jonita Kay Reid Darling. She is survived by one son, Darrel Koettel and wife Sandra of Ottumwa, Iowa, one daughter, Pamela Koettel Simpson and husband Eddy of Little Rock, six grandchildren, Loran Koettel and wife, Connie, Jaime Koettel and wife Sarah, Andrew Koettel and wife, Sandi, Jeffrey Koettel, Rhonda Simpson Douglas, and Renee' Simpson White and husband, Greg, fourteen great-grandchildren, Carmen, Nick, Ashlee, Zach, Tyler, Caleb, Gabby, Houston, Mackenzie, Allison, Frosti, Ashley, Elizabeth, and Lucas, and one great-grandchild, Kobe, two sisters, Wanda Lee Reid Simmons of Searcy and Bonita Fields of Jonesboro, special relations, the Mark and Dawn Sholes family, the John and Teresa Sholes family, and Tom and Karen Sholes family, and many nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Friday, August 17, 2012, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be Saturday, 10:00 a.m., August 18, 2012, at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Lew Moore officiating. Interment will be in McCall-Remmel cemetery.
Gene Paul Springer
November 13, 1934 - September 19, 2021
Gene Paul Springer, 86, of McCordsville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was a good, strong man who loved his family, his community, and never shied away from hard work or anything that needed to be fixed.
He was born November 13, 1934, in the family home in Gwynneville to Jesse Cleveland and Elsie Evelyn(Andrews)Springer.
Gene graduated from Morristown High School in 1952. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1957 to 1959.
On August 8, 1964, he married his wife of 57 years, Mary Louise Krick, and she survives.
Gene transformed the upstairs of his childhood home into a small cozy apartment for him and his bride. They purchased land in western Hancock County, built a home, and moved into it in 1967. His family home was of great pride for him, and only his second residence his entire life.
Gene was an active member of Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, where he served the church in various capacities including chairman of the Board of Trustees for many years.
He was the supervising quality inspector for all construction projects at Ft. Benjamin Harrison until retiring in 1990. After his retirement, he worked a combined 24 years for R.W. Armstrong, then RQAW. Gene liked to keep busy. He was an entrepreneur and refurbished typewriters and adding machines, as well as made fishing lures for extra income.
Gene was actively serving on the Buck Creek Township Advisory Board in his 14th year. He was a 50-year member of the Sugar Creek Lodge No. 279 F&AM.
Gene and Mary loved to travel and RV camp. They owned an RV for 35 years and the last 10 of those they served as Wagonmasters leading groups pf fellow Rvers to some of the most scenic areas of the U.S. This included extensive driving trips to Maine, the Southwest, and two trips to Alaska.
Mary and Gene spent their winters in Seminole, Florida, for the past 24 years. He loved the warm Florida sun and continually persuaded Mary to leave earlier each winter and stay longer each spring. He was outgoing, loved people, and never met a stranger.
The pride of Gene's life was his family. God blessed Mary and Gene with three children. David(Angela)Springer of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and their children, Ella and Paul. Debbie(Roger)Nieter of Livonia, Michigan, and their children, Hope, Marissa, and Brock. Deanna Keene(Scott Akers) of McCordsville, and her children, Derrick Keene, Danille Keene, Nicholas Keene, and Aaron Akers.
He enjoyed a close relationship with his only sibling, William Edward "Bill" Springer, who precedes him in death. Surviving in-laws are Eleanora Jean "Norie" Springer of Indianapolis, Ruth(Krick)Lamar of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Bill(Dianna)Krick of Simpsonville, South Carolina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Mount Comfort United Methodist Church, 3179 N 600 W, Greenfield. The funeral service will follow the visitation starting at noon on Saturday at the church with Pastor David Galbraith officiating. The family requests masks be worn during the visitation and funeral service.
Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family funeral Homes and Crematory, 124 E. North St., in Morristown.
