Find A Grave shows his father as being Gideon Evans but I agree that he was the son of William, and the grandson of Gideon)
(special thanks to David Fox for the following info) - Matthew is the son of Gideon Evans (#67046629) and Mary Weeks. He married Nancy (maiden name unknown) (#45847642).
(special thanks to visitor, treasuresburied@gmail.com for the following info) I think there might be some question as to who the father of Matthew Evans is. Gideon Evans was the oldest son of William and Pheobe Evans. Gideon had a daughter in March 1808. Either Matthew was a twin or he is the younger brother of Gideon. I have him as a younger brother as William and Pheobe continued to have children even after Matthew. Needs to be check out further and presumed. Would love to know if David Fox had this info in a family Bible or something.

General Notes: Husband - Thaddeus Alphonso Cory
Thaddeus Alphonso, son of Andrew F. and Lucinda E. CORY, was born October 13, 1858, in Oakland, Marion County, Indiana, in which vicinity he was reared and spent the greater part of his life. He was married to Ida H. SPRINGER, April 5, 1881. Thomas Lee, a son and Nettie Helen NEWSOM, a daughter, are the living children of this union.
He remained in the vicinity of his birthplace until the spring of 1891, when, he, with his family moved to their new home in Greene County. There they lived until the spring of 1894, when they returned to their former place of residence. Here they lived until the spring of 1901, when they again removed to their former home in Greene County, residing there until his death, which, though sudden, was not wholly unexpected. His death is the more extremely sad and distressing due to the fact that the daughter, Nettie, along with all her immediate family, were not able to be present at the funeral.
He departed this life December 18, 1920 at his late home in Fairplay Township, in the presence of his wife and son, at the age of sixty-two years, two months and seven days. He was the sixth of a family of eight children, four of whom survive. One sister and two brothers preceded him to the eternal resting place.
Besides a host of friends an other relatives, he leaves one sister, three brothers, two children, six grandchildren, and a loving and devote wife to mourn their loss.
Thad, as he was called, was a jolly jovial fellow, and to go to his home for a visit was to go to a place of great pleasure and royal entertainment, music being his favorite means of entertainment. He was a good and loyal neighbor, and his friends are numbered by his acquaintances. At the news of his death, the neighbors and friends in his vicinity called an gave expressions of sympathy and sorrow in their loss.
He was a member of Oakland Lodge No. 534, I. O. O. F., and received the highest honor that a subordinate lodge could confer - that of occupying the executive chair.
He was a very patient sufferer, being afflicted with rheumatism since the spring of 1901. his last hours of suffering were extremely painful, but he bore them bravely.
The funeral was held at Oakland last Monday.

The citizens of the north end of St. Francis county, A. T., celebrated the 58th anniversary of American Independence, at the house of Maj. CHARLES NEELY, on the 4th ins, by giving a barbacue arid ball. At 3 o'clock P. M. the company marched out to an extensive table, spread in a handsome shade, preceded by the ladies, who being seated, the Declaration of Independence was read by GEO. W. STOKES, Esq. who would have delivered an address on the occasion, but for indisposition. The Rev. Mr. BROOKFIELD made a few remarks, and then the company partook of the dinner prepared for the occasion.
After the cloth was removed, the following regular toasts were drank:
- The Day we celebrate - Sacred to true Americans, and hateful only to nullifiers and tories
- The President of the United States - In the field against a foreign enemy, or in the cabinet against a domestic foe, alike invincible
- The Union - May it be preserved, when Burrism, Calhounism, and nullification, are dead and for gotten
- The United States of America - Governed by the people, the only legitimate sovereign, office seekers and demagogues should be closely watched
- The Hon. A. H. SEVIER, our Delegate in Congress - He has our entire confidence
- The Hunters of Arkansas - Ever ready at their country's call, to protect booty and beauty
- State Government - We are ready and willing as soon as practicable, to set up for ourselves, and assume our own government
- The Memory of Gen, GEORGE WASHINGTON
- THO'S JEFFERSON, Author of the Declaration of Independence The true expounder of the constitution of the United States, and the friend of human liberty
- The State of Kentucky - The oldest of the western states: may she ever maintain, in moral and intellectual force, a high rank in the confederation
- The Marquis DE LAFAYETTE - The hero of two hemispheres, the coadjutor of Washington in the United States; in all his political course he has shown himself a consistent friend to humanity and constitutional liberty
- The Citizens of St. Francis county By their industry and honesty, they will become rich and respectable
- His Excellency JOHN POPE - Chief ploughman of state - he lays his furrows handsomely, and never looks back
- The American Fair - Industrious, virtuous, handsome, and lovely, far above foreign competition, without the aid of any protective system - may we always know how to appreciate their worth
VOLUNTEERS<>ul<By Joseph Shaver. Andrew Jackson, our venerable President, and A. H. Sevier, our Delegate in Congress - True and trusty stuff - the more they are rubbed, the brighter they shine By Jonathan Fillingim. His Excellency John Pope, Governor of Arkansas - May his veto on the ten section bill ever endear him to the freemen of Arkansas. By Dan'l Mitchell. Rob't Crittenden - a staunch patriot: those who know him best, love him most By Maj. B. R. Butler, Long life to the President, and success to his fleet, We'll drink and be merry with all friends that we meet By Ajax Tyer. A porcupine saddle, a cobweb pair of unmentionables, and a hard - trotting horse to the enemies of our country By James C. Shaver. M. Van Buren, Vice - President of the United States - He met his political persecutors, and conquered: the people are sovereign - let their will prevail By Harris Johnson. The citizens of Arkansas- We hear much fear expressed on the side or course of the powers that be: may they be on the lookout, and we doubt not that they will change with the administration By Geo. W. Stokes, Esq. The Federal Judiciary of the United States ~~~~The Arkansas Gazette - July 22 1834 • Arkansas Post, Arkansas, Arkansas
