Find A Grave dates are likely incorrect

Died in the Battle of Augusta, GA in Revolutionary War. Per GA Historical Society, "...The Siege of Augusta began in May 1781, and on June 5, in the face of overwhelming firepower, the British surrendered." This would seem to put his death by decapitation sometime in May, 1781. SOURCE: https://georgiahistory.com/marker-monday-fort-augusta-fort-cornwallis-st-pauls-church/#:~:text=The%20Siege%20of%20Augusta%20began,Savannah%20remained%20in%20British%20hands.

ADDITIONALLY:
According to researchers of the Barron line, there are many discrepancies in the information presented. The information is given here for future researchers to digest. There were at least two adult men by the name of "William Barron" in Georgia during the Revolutionary War period. One lived in Burke County and died in 1788. He indeed left a will, although it wasn't in Warren County, because that county was not even created until 1793.

The monument to William Barron in Burke County GA was NOT to the man who was killed by the British at the Siege of Augusta as mentioned in the information in the memorial. For one, according to tradition, that "Captain" William Barron was killed during the Revolution by the British & their Creek allies. The Revolutionary War ended in 1781. The Siege of Augusta was in 1781, but the memorial gives his date of death as 1788.

This discrepancy shows that this memorial is for the Burke County GA William Barron, who died AFTER the Revolution, and not for Captain William Barron of Wilkes County GA who died (we think) at the 1781 Siege of Augusta, Georgia.

In addition, recent DNA evidence proves that claims of Captain William Barron originated in County Waterford, Ireland are false. William Barron was born in Waterford Ireland and married there. He and his wife had several of their children there.
He immigrated to America in 1766 arriving at the Georgia port.

Captain William Barron
-The Barron Families lived in Waterford County, Kilkenny County, South Tipperary and Wexford Ireland
-The Barron Families owned approx. 10,000 acres of valuable land- up to the 17th century they were often described in legal documents as archbishop, or bishop, Generals or Commodore. Instunces (?) abound in the armond deeds as far back as 1270.
-Captain William Barron and his brother John Barron were descendants of the Barrons of Burnchurch, Kilkenny County, Ireland and hence lineal descendants of Lord Gerald of Offaby. We do not know which family of the Barrons Captain William Barron descended from.
-Captain William Barron was born about 1740, his wife Prudence Davis born about 1742, they were married 1760. The name of the 4 children are on record. The moved from Ireland to Warren County, Georgia in 1766.
-Captain William Barron was in command of a company in the Revolutionary War. He was wounded in the battle of Augusta, Georgia and fell into the hands of the Tories who hired an Indian to behead him. They put his head as a trophy on a pole erected in the center of Augusta where it remained three weeks until the whites regained the town and took it down. He was a brave fighter and a terror to the British and Lorien.
-There is on record in Warren Co., Georgia a will of W.Barron written March 28, 1790. Also in Burke County, Georgia in the old church cemetery between Sardis and Waynesboro is a marker with this inscription "William Barron, GA, mil, Rev. War"

A fellow researcher submitted this information about the Barron's: Barron Linage
The old history of the Barrons being descendants of the Waterford, Ireland Barrons has been proven false through DNA. The William Barron (1740-1788) Memorial #23502532 is related to the Barrons of York and Union Counties in South Carolina. This Barron line is actually Ulster Scots.

General Notes: Wife - Prudence Davis

Burial details unknown

Prudence Barron was born in the early 1740s, location unknown. Family tradition claims that she married William Barron in the early 1760s. They had four known children: John Barron, Samuel Barron, Mary Elizabeth Barron Garrard, and William Barron.

Family tradition dating from the 1890s claims that William and Prudence Barron were born in County Waterford, Ireland, but DNA evidence refutes this. That evidence connects Prudence Barron's family to the Barrons of York and Union Counties, South Carolina and County Down, Ireland. The tradition also claims that Prudence Barron's maiden name was "Davis," but reported connections to William Barron and wife Prudence Davis of Craven County North Carolina remain undocumented.

The first documented reference to Prudence Barron dates from 1784, when Widow Barron owned land in Wilkes County Georgia. Tax records from the 1785-1795 period prove that Widow Barron was indeed Prudence. She remained in Wilkes County with her sons until 1796, when she wrote her will. She died later that year, but unfortunately, her will was recorded in a book that was subsequently lost.

Family tradition claims that Prudence's husband, William Barron, served as an officer in the Georgia Militia, commanding a company of men fighting for the Patriots. It states that the Tories captured Captain Barron at the Siege of Augusta, handed over to their Creek allies, who executed him. Despite repeated attempts, no contemporary documentation has been found to verify this tradition.

According to John Davis Garrard, William was living with Henry when "he died in Nov., 1848, being 81 years and 5 or 6 months old... I saw him frequently until I was near 21 years of age. I was present at his death and burial. Was the only one besides his wife who witnessed his death, as he died very suddenly, although complaining of hurting in his breast all the forepart of the day. I had gone on a visit to see him from Newton County presuming that I would not have the opportunity to visit him any more." [Source: 18 August 1892 letter to J.D. Barron]. Garrard described William's teeth in his old age as being "all perfect and as white clean and pretty as a child's could be at three or four years of age." [Source: "The Barron Family of Warren County, Georgia, and Descendants"]. Mrs. Margaret Etheredge, a descendant of William's son, Henry, wrote, "In 1848 he (William) died at the home of his son, Henry, who lived on Lot No. 169 near Old Bethel Church. He is buried in a pasture on this lot. [Source: History of Butts County, Georgia, p. 287].
He was a Revolutionary War Soldier.

In the Butts County History Book according to the Genealogical Society,
Mrs. Margaret Etheredge states that William Barron, Jr. was the first member of his family to move to Butts Co. She also says he was buried in the pasture on land lot number 169, where the home of his son, Henry Barron was located.
Several members of the Genealogical Society have tried in Vain to locate this grave.
I am including this information here as it has been previously documented as a Burial site.

Memories of Pete Hydrick (son of Ed Hydrick) as told to his wife Joyce 4-15-2015

Letter to Cheryl Haynie

Clara Mae married Rufus Brown. After his death, she married William Bartholomew. She would come to Alabama for a couple of weeks to visit during the summer. Pete's mother said, while she was staying at Vardy's, she would walk down to their house for just a "haf-a-cup" of coffee and she'd drink the whole pot. Ed's farm was right next to Vardy's (Uncle Carlos Hydrick).

Given in a letter to Cheryl Haynie on 4-15-2015 (from Joyce Hydrick)

Joyce Hydrick is the wife of Pete and daughter in law to Ed Hydrick.

I had the privilege of knowing Aunt Clara when I was living at home while Pete was stationed in Germany. Loved talking with her. I was visiting with her on Aunt Mabel's front porch one afternoon after work. Aunt Clara explained how her son's divorce from his ex-wife was scriptural. "The Bible says what God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Well, God didn't join them. The devil did." So that is my Aunt Clara story. Haaa Ha.
