Born in 1931 to Philip and Montie Sadler in Sikeston, Mo, Graham grew up with three brothers - Philip, Milton and Paul. After marrying Betty Ann Grugett in 1950 and starting a family, he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1952 from Southeast Missouri State College (Cape Girardeau, MO). Graham then worked as Assistant Librarian and Instructor of Library Science at Southeast Missouri State College from 1954-1961. He spent summers working toward his Masters in Library Science at Emory University (Atlanta, GA) and earned his degree in 1958. He served in the United States Naval Reserve from 1950 to 1968.

In 1961, Graham became Administrative Librarian at Kinderhook Regional Library (Lebanon, MO), where he began his legacy of building libraries. Graham then spent one year (1966-1967) in Durango, CO, as Director of the Fort Lewis College Library before he was appointed Associate Professor, Division of Librarianship at Kansas State Teachers College (Emporia, KS). Three years later, the family moved to the Denver metro area for Graham to work as Assistant Librarian and Director of Community Services for the Denver Public Library. From 1970-1977, he worked on library development and coordinated the DPL Foundation and Friends of the Denver Public Library. He finished his career as the Director of Henrico County Library (Richmond, VA), working to expand the system with new libraries. After retirement in 1994, Graham and Betty returned to Denver.

Betty preceded him in death in 2020. He is survived by three children - Graham, Jr. (Judy), Susan (Diana), and Lee (Ruth); his youngest son, Harrison (Linda, deceased) died in 2015. "Papa" was the proud and loving grandfather of Duane (Jamie), Benjamin (Sarah), Matthew (Megan), Catherine, Jacob, and Sarah; and the great grandfather of Alexis, Cori Beth, Diana, and Isaac. After years of struggling with lung disease and congestive heart failure, Graham collapsed and died in the early morning on his 92nd birthday. A man of steadfast faith, Graham also loved his church and church family.

Ashes will be interred beside Betty at Fairmount Cemetery (Denver, CO).

Betty Ann Sadler
May 1929 – June 2020

Born as Eula Mae Youngman in 1929 to Josiah "Sy" Youngman and Mildred "Bodie" Ivy Youngman in Fisher, Arkansas, Betty was one of 11 children – 8 surviving past birth. At 2 years-of-age she and her siblings were orphaned and shuffled between family members until her older siblings – Claude and Sarah - were no longer able to care for the younger ones. Betty was adopted by Benjamin Harrison Grugett and Beulah Grugett of Kennett, Missouri, and named Betty Ann Grugett. She grew up in Kennett – even playing tuba in the high school marching band! She became acquainted with her birth siblings as an adult.

Betty attended Southeast Missouri State (SEMO), met and married Graham Sadler in 1950, and started teaching with a 2-year certificate in rural schools, while Graham continued his college education. She raised four children – Graham, Jr. (Judy), Susan, Adrian Lee (Ruth), and Scott Harrison (Linda, both deceased). She moved frequently to follow Graham's career in Library Science – from Cape Girardeau, MO to Lebanon, MO. Then, to Durango, CO, to Emporia, KS, to Denver, CO, and to Henrico County (Richmond), VA. She welcomed and shared life with grandchildren and great grandchildren – Duane, Benjamin, Matthew, Catherine, Jacob, Alexis, Cori Beth, Sarah, Isabella and Diana.

Betty loved to sew, garden, create, bake, change household decorations for each season, and host family holiday dinners. There were always homemade cookies in the cookie jar. She was a faithful church member – Southern Baptist to the core – and she read her Bible every morning with her daily devotionals or Sunday School lessons. In Durango, when the kids were in grade school, Betty continued her undergraduate studies at Fort Lewis College. She finally earned her undergraduate degree and teaching certificate at Emporia State Teachers' College. In Henrico County, she taught as an elementary reading specialist. After retirement, Betty and Graham moved back to Aurora, CO, and joined University Hills Baptist Church in Denver.

Just one day before her 91st birthday, she fell and broke her hip and other bones. Complications of the fall and subsequent hip replacement surgery made it impossible for her body to heal. Two weeks after surgery she died in a skilled nursing facility – separated from family visitors due to COVID-19 restrictions. A private memorial service for family members and burial of her ashes will take place at Fairmount Cemetery, Denver. Newcomer - East Metro Chapel (720-857-0700) is assisting the family

Cheryl Hydrick Guedri passed away on July 16, 2024. Her loss was completely unexpected and her family is profoundly saddened. Cheryl is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Chris Guedri, her son Ross Guedri and grandchildren Connor and Amelia Guedri. She is also survived by her brother, Chip Hydrick (Diana); her brothers-in-law, Chuck Guedri (Nancy), Mark Guedri (Janice) and Matt Guedri (Debbie); and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Born on March 19, 1954, to Gus and Betty Hydrick, Cheryl and her older brother, Chip, were happily raised in Richmond. Cheryl attended Skipwith Elementary and Tucker High School. While in high school, Cheryl was a cheerleader, writer and later editor of the school's newspaper, was the school's mascot (the Tucker Tiger) at athletic events and was the youngest delegate to attend the 1972 Virginia Democratic Convention.

Cheryl (often referred to as "Pumpkin" by her father) started college at Mary Baldwin College. In the summer between her freshman and sophomore years, she met Chris at his brother Chuck's wedding where both were attendants. Neither dated anyone else thereafter.

Cheryl transferred to the University of Virginia for her third and fourth years of college. Both economic majors, Cheryl and Chris often had classes together, spent countless hours together in Alderman Library, and partied at the KA House where they made lifelong friendships.

Six weeks after graduating with honors, Cheryl and Chris were married on June 18, 1976, and moved into a "spacious" Grove Avenue third floor apartment without air conditioning. Sharing one car between them, Chris's MGB was sold and replaced with a more practical used AMC Pacer. That fall, Chris started law school and Cheryl began working at Heritage Savings and Loan as a loan officer. While working full-time, Cheryl enrolled in VCU's Evening Graduate Business Program earning her master's degree in two years. Soon thereafter, Cheryl took a position at Crestar Bank (now Truist) as a Commercial Loan Analyst. In 1987 Cheryl and Chris were given their greatest gift - the opportunity to adopt their son, Ross, as a newborn. A year after Ross's arrival, Cheryl retired from the bank to become a stay-at-home mother.

For the next 18 years, Cheryl and Chris attended all of Ross's school functions and countless baseball, basketball, and lacrosse games. Once Ross was in school, Cheryl was able to devote much of her time and talents to area non-profits including Peter Paul Development Center and the Virginia Science Museum.

Each summer the family would take an experienced-based trip of some sort - a dude ranch, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Hawaii, and several stays at the Bitter End Yacht Club in Virgin Gorda. Throughout the years, the family would spend most of their summer weekends in Deltaville where they boated, sailed, and hung out with the many great friends made within their condo community. Cheryl was Chris's first mate on their sailboat, literally, and figuratively, and first mate in all aspects of their lives together.

In recent years, Chris and Cheryl traveled extensively to Europe, South America, Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Russia. Cheryl never tired of seeing and learning new things or planning their next adventure.

Cheryl was extremely generous with her time. At St. James's Episcopal Church, she chaired the annual pledge process for five years and continued to serve as a liaison to that committee during her three-year service on the vestry.

For several years, Cheryl served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) where she dealt with families in crisis and children in danger or in need of protective assistance. Working closely with a child's guardian ad litem, Cheryl would report her findings, assessments, and recommendations to the juvenile court system. Cheryl further used her skills as a tutor for students at Anna Julia Cooper School.

In her free time, Cheryl loved being with any of her huge cadre of friends. She was an active member of both The Tuckahoe Woman's Club and The Woman's Club. She met monthly with her book club and played bridge with two dynamic groups. Cheryl enjoyed meeting new people and truly cherished her many friendships.

Ross and his wife blessed Cheryl and Chris with two terrific grandchildren, Conner (7) and Amelia (5), who called her GiGi and fortunately lived in Richmond. She happily spoiled them, but not to excess, and counseled them on proper manners and how to show respect toward others. "GiGi" cherished every moment she shared with them.

Cheryl Guedri was bright, generous, caring, and an infectious lover of life. She made the world a better place and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Bliley's Funeral Home, 3801 Augusta Avenue, Richmond, Virginia. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 12pm at St. James's Episcopal Church, 1205 West Franklin Street, Richmond, Virginia with a reception to follow at The Country Club of Virginia (Westhampton Clubhouse), 6031 Saint Andrews Lane, Richmond, Virginia.

General Notes: Wife - Helen Jane Guerin

Helen is shown in the household of John Daniel Cunningham and his wife, Cornelia, on the 1870 Federal Census from Montgomery, AL. Her husband, Miles, had died the previous year and she was pregnant with their son, Frank.

Mr. Cunningham was a Judge so was a man of means. There are other Hydricks in the household as well:
Morgan Hydrick 18 Housekeeper
Macon Hydrick 24 Policeman
Andrew Hydrick 7
Ellen J Hydrick 27 Seamstress

It is possible that Miles and Ellen were the parents of Andrew but I have no evidence. Macon was a brother of Miles but there is no record of Morgan unless she were married to Macon and Hydrick was her married name. Macon was married to three women and the last one (marr. 1866) was Mary Guerin (sister of Helen??), If you search for Morgan Hydrick in Ancestry.com, Mary Guerin's record is returned. Because of the recorded ages of all, I doubt Andrew was the son of Macon, even if from one of his first wives. --DMH

General Notes: Wife - Daisy G. Gunther

Her first husband, Mr. Hixon, died in 1933 and it's possible that she and Audry were married after 1933. Her son, John Hixon, would have 20/21 by the time the 1940 census came out and would have possibly been out of the house. Her daughter was tragically killed at the age of four and obviously not on the 1940 (or 1930) census.

This would fit the timeline of the 1930 and 1940 census as they married sometime between the two.

General Notes: Child - Vivian Elizabeth HIXON

Per her death certificate found on Ancestry.com: she was a child of J. C. Hixon and Daisy Grunnels, both born in S. C. She died at the Columbia Hospital of a brain injury and fracture of spine (accidental). The informant was Mrs. J. C. Hixon of Columbia, S. C.

Found in The State 09 November 1927: Vivian Elizabeth Hixon, four-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hixon of Edgewood, who was struck by a heavy bus last Sunday, died at the Columbia hospital early last night. Her skull was fractured when she was struck by the bus. Besides her parents, the little girl is survived by one brother, J. L. Hixon, eight years of age. Funeral arrangements had not been completed last night. Coroner J. Blakely Scott announced last night that the inquest into the child's death would be held at 7 o'clock tonight at the Richland courthouse. The little girl was playing in the yard of Edgewood school last Sunday afternoon, when seeing her father emerge from a building on the opposite side of the street, she attempted to cross to him. She almost succeeded in crossing when she was struck by one of the buses of the Carolina Transit company, driven by J. M. Eargle, who, following the accident, was taken into custody by Sheriff T. Alex Heise. The bus was being operated on the Cayce-Edgewood route. The accident occurred just outside Columbia on the Two Notch road.

Collected Records of Frieden's Lutheran & Reformed Church Branch Township and St. John's Evangelical Lutheran and Reformed Church Friedensburg, Closson Press 1998 lists Jacob Schafer, pg 146, with a death date of 01 Jul 1847 (no DOB). [info from user 48895586 - Mosslady]

His burial record is found in the St. Paul's Church records which covered burials in many of the local cemeteries. He had apparently been a member of St. John's in Friedensburg, Wayne Township, at some point as at least two of his children (Japhet & Frederick) were Christened there.

His last name is spelled in many different ways in his probate records including Shaefer, Shaeffer, Shafer, and Schaeffer. His interment record at St. Paul's spells it Schaefer. Schaeffer seems to be the more customary spelling of this last name, notwithstanding the many versions in his records.

His Schuylkill County probate records list heirs as follows (using the record's spellings):
1. John Shaeffer
2. Michael Shaeffer
3. Enoch Shaeffer
4. Japhet Shaeffer
5. Catharine, wife of John Rahn
6. Judith, wife of Jacob Schreck
