William "Willie" T. Levesque was born in Cross Co on his parent's farm. At 17, he became a deputy sheriff (to his father, the Sheriff). He also ran a sawmill and cotton gin, in addition to farming. He married Effie Hamilton (b. Dec 1868, d. 1957, buried Cogbill Cemetery, Wynne, Cross Co., AR) in 22 Apr 1884, Cross Co., AR. It appear to have fallen apart rapidly however, for in 1900 we see Effie is living with her brother, stating she was married "0" years and with 0/0 children born/living! Effie never remarries and stays with her brothers until she dies in 1957. And that same year finds a W. T. Levesque with another wife: Rachel Taylor, a younger woman, marrying her on 16 Feb 1898 (see below).

UPDATE: 21 Mar 2026 - checked the records on Ancestry.
1- Effie's death certificate listes her birth date as 5 Jun 1870
2- 1880 census lists her age as 11. It was enumerated om June 19 which put her birth year as 1869
3- Her marriage license application lists her birth year as 1866 (probably lied to show she was 18?)Married 22 Apr 1884 which was befoe her birthdate so she was either 14 or 15 (1869) when married
4- 1900 census, taken June 1: no longer married and age listed as 32, making her birth year as 1868 if she rounded up or 1869 if she did not
5- 1910 census, taken May 7: age listed as 34. If correct, then her birth year was 1876
6- 1920 census, taken Jan 28: age listed as 51. If correct, then her birth year was 1869
7- 1930 census, taken Aor 11:age listed as 62. If correct, then her birth year was 1868
8- 1940 census, taken Apr 2: age listed as 72. If correct, then her birth year as 1868
9- 1950 census, taken Apr 3: age listeed as 81. If correct, then her birth year was 1869
In summary, people can be confused (or lie); enumerators can make mistakes and ages depend upon one's birthday vs. when the census was taken

Air Force Colonel, Elmer C. Lavender II, a native of Raleigh, NC, has changed commands after 14 months here, and moved to his new command in North Carolina.

Lavender commanded the 834th Air Base Wing during the period of unprecedented growth while most military bases are b scaling back.

"It seems there was always something going on at Hurlburt while I was there," he said. "We broke ground for the new civil engineering complex, dining facility, sewage treatment plant, mobility center, aerial delivery facility and the new Air Force Special Operations Command Annex."

The colonel assumes command of the Air Force Mobility Center at Pope Air Force Base, N. C. in early October.

The mobility center's mission is to provide the Air Force with centralized expertise to enhance the capabilities of airlift forces worldwide. It is the Air Mobility Command's focal point for conducting operational tests and evaluations. Its people develop tactics, techniques and concepts for airlift forces, and will do follow - on testing of the new C17 aircraft.

" I am honored to have been chosen as the next mobility center commander, " said Lavender. " I'm looking forward to the demanding tempo of working around the flying business. "

Lavender was born Oct. 6, 1942 in Raleigh, N.C. He entered the Air Force in March 1965, completing his pilot training at Stead AFB, Nev., in February 1966. During his tour of duty in Southwest Asia as a helicopter rescue pilot, he was credited with saving nine downed crew members behind enemy lines. He flew a total of 250 combat missions.

Lavender also flew fixed wing aircraft and is a command pilot with more than 5,000 flying hours. He is the recipient of many military decorations, including the Silver Star, Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Lavender is married to the former Margaret Herden of Winnsboro. They have two children, Neal and Lisa.

BARBARA JEAN KEY, 84, of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2020 surrounded by her family.

The Calhoun County native was born, one of eight, to Johnny Preston and Mattie Louise Wilkins Hardy. She retired from JSU from food service, specifically the salad bar.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings: Grace Pinkston and Paul Hardy; grandson: Matthew Key; and the father of her children: Wallace Burns Key.

Her greatest passions were her love for the Lord, her family, and music. She sang from the time she got up until she went to bed. Having been saved as a very young girl, she truly was a Saint of God who showed wisdom and love throughout her life.

Survivors include her children: Pam (Mike) Barnwell, Brian Key, Theresa (Dale) Brown, and Melinda (Barry) Davidson; brother: Troy (Mary) Hardy; sisters: Joyce Parker, Delana Hardy, Carolyn Smith, and Reeta Golden; grandchildren: Christy Stewart, Preston Barnwell, Susan Maxwell, Ashley Marvasty, Landon Key, Dustin Brown, Bo Brown, and Lana Brooks; and 12 great grandchildren.
