LITTLE ROCK - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bobbye Hydrick Garner Floyd, who departed this life on Dec. 9, 2025, in Little Rock. Bobbye Jean Hydrick was born in Memphis, to Robert Flynn and Edith Holcomb Hydrick, on July 14, 1936. She spent her early years living near her father's Red and White Store outside Parkin, Ark., in the Togo Community before her father purchased a farm at the end of World War II. She did many things, but working as a farm girl was not one of them. Although she did learn to drive in an old army jeep in the alfalfa field.
Bobbye graduated from Parkin High School, where she was on the homecoming court and Homecoming Queen in her senior year. She managed the girls' basketball team and earned the nickname of "lightning" from Coach Norris for her slowness.
Bobbye was a teacher, mother, and grandmother. She attended Memphis State University, now, University of Memphis, before transferring to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. She graduated from ASU with a degree in English and was certified to teach secondary education. She taught junior high, senior high, adult education, and alternative school, and was an adjunct professor at Pulaski Technical College. She held a lifetime certification in the State of Arkansas. She was a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center for over 10 years.
In 1958, she married James Richard Garner and had two children, Janet Lynn Garner and James Hydrick Garner. She lived in Wynne, where she played pitch and bridge. She was involved with the Wynne Band Booster and served as president of that organization. She was also a Cub Scout den mother.
In 1982, she moved from Wynne to Jonesboro, where she met and married Joseph Parker Floyd. She and Joe were active in the arts community, and she also served on the Arkansas Sesquicentennial Committee for Craighead County before moving to Little Rock. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, and being entertained. Her mother was a great cook, but Bobbye preferred eating out to preparing meals herself. Lunch or an early dinner with her granddaughters and friends was one of her favorite activities. After Joe's death, she was active in Faith United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school and conducted bible study groups. She also served on Good Shepherd's Resident Council.
She was blessed with four granddaughters: Jett, Greylin, Reagan, and Audrey, and became Baboo. She loved spending time with her granddaughters and hearing about what was happening in their lives.
Bobbye was predeceased by her parents, aunts, and uncles, and both her husbands. She was also predeceased by her blind cocker spaniel, Riley, whom she always referred to as Little Rowdy, even though he weighed over forty pounds.
She is survived by her two children, Janet Garner Baugher (Mike) and Jim H. Garner; her four granddaughters, Jett Pieroni (John David); her first great-granddaughter, Garner Mae Pieroni; Greylin Garner, Reagan Garner Johnson (Paul), and Audrey Garner; her stepson, Joe Floyd, and his sister, Teri Floyd Wright.
There will be a private burial. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Bobbye Floyd's life on Jan. 7, 2026, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Faith United Methodist Church, 9820 W. Markham St., Little Rock, Ark., 72205.

Per converstion with Jack Hydrick 8/21/1994: "Uncle George" Stacy was old time bootlegger. Dad was in George's barn and asked what the hundreds of 5 gallon tin cans were for. Uncle George told him to open and smell one - corn whiskey. Told Dad the name "rockin' chair" whiskey came from booze kept in wooded kegs which had been charred inside. The kegs were suspended to bottom of rocking chairs. The rocking motion smoothed the taste.

He then returned to Mississippi, where he remained until 1870, when he removed to Franklin County, Ark., and two years later located on his present farm near Charleston, which is underlaid with coal, and is very valuable.
In 1866 Mr. Holder married Emma J. Pettigrew, who was born in 1844, and is a daughter of Ebeneezer Pettigrew. Mr. and Mrs. Holder are the parents of five children, viz.: Sallie P., John E., James L., Mattie K. and Augustus B. One infant is deceased. Mrs. Holder is a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Holder is a Democrat in politics.

General Notes: Wife - Florence Marie Holland
Florence Marie Hydrick, age 88, entered into eternal rest on August 19th, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. Marie, as she was affectionately known, was born February 2, 1925 in Brownsville, Texas. She will reunite with her parents Taylor and Frances Holland of Amarillo, Texas. She is survived and remembered by her son John Hydrick and wife Sylvia Hydrick, her grandson Taylor and wife Melissa Hydrick, granddaughter Tiffany as well as her great grandchildren, Taylor Sheffield and Chase Hydrick, her brother James Holland and many numerous other friends and family members in Mississippi.
Marie became a Texas Peace Officer in 1981 after retiring from Civil Service at Kelly AFB. She dispatched for the Sheriff's Office in Atascosa County on the weekends for over a year. She was then commissioned by Sheriff Garza at the Bexar County Sheriff's office where she dispatched for several years as a reserve deputy before getting hired at the jail as a matron (detention guard). Dispatching was more of her dream so an opening at Castle Hills Police Department enticed her away. Marie dispatched there for five years before retiring again. However she just couldn't stay away from dispatching "her officers as she liked to call them" so she was commissioned as a non-paid deputy and dispatcher for Bexar County Constable Pct.#4 for eight years before completely retiring to her hobbies. She was an avid fisherman, painter and loved riding her Gold-Wing motorcycle.
Marie's love of law enforcement and dispatching had a side effect too. Her only son John, became a peace officer in 1978 and has served Bexar County for the past 35 years, Bexar County SO for 10 years, Shavano Park Police Department for 6 months and 24+ years at the Pct. 4 Constables office. ".And they say young men follow in their father's footsteps." Well not this time !
A memorial service is scheduled for 4:30 pm Friday, September 20th at the Meadowlawn Tribute Center, 5415 E. Houston St.

per letter from the Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, PA dated 27 Nov 2022:
The cemetery records do not list a Janette (Holmes) Baldridge (b. 24 Jun 1694 - d. 27 Jul 1768). A search of the Lancaster County Historical Society (LancasterHistory), Worner Book, Volume 10 and a recent walkdown of the cemetery has not uncovered a gravestone for her. The Lancaster Cemetery was established 1846. Janette would have, at least initially, been elsewhere and if she was moved to this cemetery, it would have been a removal.
There is no gravestone for Janette (Holmes) Baldridge in the Lancaster Cemetery.

There is no mention in the book, "The Descendants of Major Jacob Haysmith Hydrick 1819-1903" by Onan Augustus Hydrick, of William nor of his mother. I can only postulate, without hard research-verification, that the Major did or did not father a colored child. If it is true, it would be similar to Thomas Jefferson and his slave concubine. -DMH

My grandma Hydrick Hooker (we called her Gang-gang as my bro. was the oldest grandchild & that is what he called her & it stuck) was not a very big person, not real small but a little below average I guess. From the few pictures we have of granddad Hooker he was a big person, looking about 6 ft. tall & well over 200 lbs. His sons were all tall, Cecil is over 6 ft. & my bro. Fred Fetner, Jr. is 6'4". Mama said they called their grandmama Robinson Hooker little bitty grandma & their grandma Hydrick big fat grandma. I would have guessed the other way around. From granddad Hooker's pix I thought he had red hair. Mama & aunts said he had brown hair, the pix just faded.
Mama told us some stories about what was passed on to her. She said her mother told some relatives thatwere childless that if she had another girl she would give her to them. My Mom was born, the 5thgirl, with 2 boys already born. The word went out & the kinfolk came with horse & buggy & baby things to get my Mom. My grandma laughed & told them she was just kidding. The other story was when the twins were born. Granddaddy was working in the field when the hands rang the bell. When he got back to the house they told him he had 2 daughters. His reply: "The hell you say!"
