Police: Pedestrian struck and killed on Homer Street last week lived in area
Lansing State Journal

LANSING TWP - A man who was struck by a vehicle and killed last week on Homer Street had been living in the area and was a regular at area businesses where he went to use their amenities, police said.

Billy Joe Hicks, 43, was standing at or near the curb on the east side of Homer Street, north of Vine Street, when a Ford F-150 pickup went off the road after colliding with a Chevrolet Traverse about 3:30 p.m. at the intersection with Vine and careened into him on Aug. 7, Lansing Township police said. Hicks was later was pronounced dead at U-M Health-Sparrow Hospital.

State corrections department records indicate Hicks absconded from parole in late February. The records show he had an active sentence for failing to register as a sex offender out of Clare County. He was sentenced to 13 months to 15 years in prison in that case in September 2018.

Police said Hicks did not have a permanent street address, and they believe he had been staying in the area where he died.

The preliminary crash investigation indicated the driver of the Traverse, who had a stop sign on Vine, failed to yield to the driver of the pickup truck, who was northbound on Homer, Lansing Township Detective Sgt. Randy Volosky said.

Both drivers involved in the crash were cooperative, and police did not believe intoxication or other aggravated circumstances were factors, Volosky said last week.

The crash remained under investigation.

Dear Collector, I got my first Chandler unlikely that the map came from Lewis and Clark High School. She'd still like to know where it came from. Any ideas?...
...Since then, I have bought 12 more prints (the colors are so pretty). Can you tell me anything about the artist?
You must mean William Henry Chandler (1854-1928), possibly this country's foremost pastel artist. He ran what amounted to an art factory, where assistants prepared his chalks and boards; setting up easels, so that he could create a large number of works each day. Original landscapes auction for several hundred dollars, but your prints will have considerably less value.
