Jess Stokes' first wife was Bedie McAdams. He and she married 3 January 1897, Pickens County, AL. Jess and Bedie were first cousins; Bedie was the daughter of James Milton McAdams and Susan Ollie McAdams. Jess's mother, Mary Aseltine McAdams Stokes, and Bedie's father, James Milton McAdams, were siblings; they were both children of Samuel Lacy McAdams.
After Bedie's death, Jess married Josephine "Jo" McAdams, the widow of Tom Stokes, and the daughter of Obidiah McAdams. Jo was a half-sister to Susan Ollie McAdams, mother of his first wife, Bedie. Both Jo and Susan Ollie were the daughters of Obidiah McAdams. But Jo was the daughter of Obidiah's second wife, Mary Cobb Jennings, and Susan Ollie McAdams was the daughter of Obidiah's first wife, Temperance Earp McAdams. Jess's mother, Mary Aseltine McAdams Stokes, as stated above, was the daughter of Samuel L McAdams. Samuel L and Josephine's daddy, Obidiah McAdams, were brothers, both sons of John McAdams. So, Jess's mother, Mary Aseltine and Josephine were first cousins; and Jess and Josephine were first-cousins-once-removed.

With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Shirley Boykin of Brookhaven, Mississippi, born in Raleigh, Mississippi, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Some confustion (on my part) about he and his father's names. His father is listed as William Sr but Wallace is the first name on this son's tombstone. Notice the first line of this obit names W.H. Phillips with no "Jr" at the end. With the use of initials, it's not known if it's meant to be WIlliam or Wallace? If his father was a "Sr", then who is the "Jr"? Funeral services were held last Thursday at 10 a.m. for W.H. Phillips, 83, of Mangham, at the First Baptist Church with the Revs. James Harvey and Robert Martin officiating. Interment was in the Gwin Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Service of Rayville. Mr. Phillips died Tuesday of last week at his residence following a brief illness.
Survivors include two sons, Henry Phillips of Rayville, and Troy Phillips of New Orleans; six daughters, Mrs. Letha Salsbury, Mrs. Gatha Salsbury and Mrs. Neley Vinson, all of Mangham, Mrs. Virgie Lawrence of Mereaux, Mrs. Blanche Lowery of Avondale, and Mrs. Myrtle Sturgeon of Houston, Tex.; two brothers, Murley Phillips of Pokeville, Miss., and Huey Phillips of Crowville; a half brother, Leo Phillips of West Monroe; a half sister, Mrs. O.G. Smith of Gilbert; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dick Hill, Fred Smith, Myrt Hales, Dewey Hutson, Arlon Hutson, Jackie Box and Freddie Phillips.

Death of a Brave Soldier. - Daniel Franklin McCoy died at his residence in Orwigsburg, on Sanday last, aged 26 years, 6 months and 1 usy of disease contracted in the service of his c try. When the rebels fired Fort Sumpter be enlisted in Capt. Anthony's Company, for the three months' service. At the expiration of that term of service he enlisted in Company A, Capt. La Mar Hay, Ninety - sixth Pennsylvania RegiDane the seven days' fight in 1862, boment. Duine fore Richmond, he was wounded in the right aim, rendering amputation below the elbow necessary. Subsequently he was in the Invalid Corpa. During his entire tel m of service he was recognized as a faithful, brave soldier. He died a staunch, enthusiastic Union man. He leaves a young wifo and one child. On Tuesday forenoon last his remains were interrod in the Lutheran Cemetery, Orwigabarg. attended to the grávo by a large number of friends and relatives.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hardy "Curly" Webster Morgan, age 86, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Victory Tabernacle Church with Rev. Kevin Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Morgan retired at St. Francis Medical Center after 20 years. He served as Seaman of U.S. Navy and at one point, in the Marshall Islands during the Bikini Toll atomic bomb test on sea in 1946.
Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife of 35 years, Virginia Morgan; children, Lisa Diane Hendon of New York, Mary Alice Cox and husband Lewis of Texas, Thomas Richard and wife Beverly, Douglas Ramer and wife Jackie, Coleman Stover, Matthew Stover and wife Linda of Texas, Delbert Stover and wife Donna; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Mattie Morgan; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and J.W. Williamson.

His parents may also be buried in this cemetery; however, no tombstones can be found.
According to another researcher of this family, Samuel's death certificate shows he was the father of 29 children; however available records show only 18 children. I could not find his death certificate which were not required in Georgia until 1919

AE McWilliams was married to Sarah Ann McGowan 1808 @ Abbeville District, SC. They moved first to DeKalb Co., GA in 1828 and then to near"Flat Shoals", Meriwether Co., GA in 1832 with oldest eight of "seven sons/two daus." and built a home & farm.
Andrew E. McWilliams died 1859 (his will) and was buried on the family property near Gay, GA. Sarah A. McGowan McWilliams continued to live at the family homestead until her own death in 1876. Both AE & Sarah A. McGowan McWilliams are buried in the private McWilliams Family Cemetery located on that land. No stones now exist. This property stayed within family ownership until 1987.

Sarah Ann McGowan arrived with her mother & siblings (father Patrick "died @ sea") in 1801 at Charleston, SC from Lairne, Co. Antrim, Ireland. Her family was aboard the ship "Sallie" which had sailed from Belfast, Ireland.
In 1807 she was married to Andrew E. McWilliams @ Abbeville District, SC
They were parents to seven sons/two daughters
In 1828 they moved from Laurens Co, SC first to DeKalb Co, GA and then in 1832 AE & Sarah McGowan McWilliams moved (with the oldest 8 of nine children) to Meriwether Co., GA near "Flat Shoals" and built their home.
Andrew E. died 1859 (his will) & Sarah McWilliams continued to live at this early homesite until her own death in 1876. Some records state that James was born in Ireland. Since his parents arrived in America in 1764, either his birthdate is incorrect or that he was not born in Ireland. It's highly doubtful he was born in MS
Ancestry shows a James Thomas Phillips having married Nancy Lockhart in 1797. This would have put him at 32 years of age. It's possible he could have had a third wife before this Nancy (if she is the correctd second wife). He doesn't marry Nancy McGrew until 1815 so she can't be the mother of his children as the last one was born 1810.
NOTE: Regarding the James L. vs James Thomas: Ancestry uses an algorithm to extract data from original, hand-written documents; e.g. census. Some of the census enumerators' handwriting is hard to read and some is very ornate in which case a cursive L could resemble a T??? -DMH

Mrs. Catherine M. Schroeder, 71, widow of John Schroeder, died early yesterday morning in her home in Harmonyville. Born in Cressona, Schuylkill County, a daughter of the late Patrick and Anna (Hagner) Mc Gugart, Mrs. Schroeder had resided in the Pottstown area since 1922. She was a member of Pottstown's St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
Mrs. Schroeder, whose husband died 1941, is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Marion Striegel Reading; Mrs. Catherine Hinnershitz, this place, and Mrs. Dorothy Davidheiser, with whom she last resided; also, two sons: Albert and Donald, both of Harmonyville; 10 grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs Mazie Cane, and brother, Charles, both of Schuylkill Haven.
Funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Fleischmarr Funeral Home, this place, followed by a Requiem High Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church. Burial will be in St. Aloysius New Cemetery.

George B. Sullivan, 71, of the Colonial Apartments, Turnpike Street, Beaver, died in his home, Monday evening, October 27, 1958, following an extended illness.
Born September 9, 1887, in Crossingville, Crawford County,, Pa., he came to Beaver County in 1907, residing in Beaver 30 years. Prior to his retirement in 1953, as a crew dispatcher for the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, he had 43 years of service with that company. Mr. Sullivan was a member of SS. Peter and Paul R. C. Church, Beaver; a past president of the Holy Name Society, a past president of St. Vincent DePaul Society, a member of the church committee Father James Reid Council Knights of Columbus, of Rochester; the Knights of St. George; the Rochester B.P.O.E., Lodge no. 283; the Pennsylvania Railroad Retired Men's Club, of Conway, Pa. and St. Petersburg, Fla.; and the Railway Clerks' Union. Mr. Sullivan was a former Troop Committeeman of the Boy Scouts of America.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillian O. Sullivan; two brothers, Raymond Sullivan, St. Petersburg, Fla. and Ralph Sullivan, Blue Island, Ill.; and three sisters: Mrs. Lena Blue, Freedom; Mrs. Catherine Baumer, Lakewood, O.; and Mrs. Albert Haag, of Beaver.
Friends will be received after 7:30 o'clock this evening in the J.T. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 205 College Ave., Beaver. Requiem High Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Mrs. Abigail Sullivan Haag, 87, 143 Market St., Beaver, was dead on arrival Tuesday, July 3, 1979 at the Rochester unit of the Medical Center of Beaver County, after suffering an apparent heart attack in Beaver.
Born Jan. 5, 1892, in Crossingville, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Anna Catherine McIntosh Sullivan and had been a resident of Beaver for about 60 years. She was a SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Beaver, and a member of the Altar Rosary Society of the church. Her husband, the late Albert L. Haag, preceded her in death in 1963.
Surviving are one son, Robert L. Haag, New York City; two daughters, Mrs. John T. (Alberta) Clougherty, Churchill Borough, Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Robert P. (Anna Margaret) Locke, Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Alena Blue, Brighton Township.
Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the J. T. Anderson Jr. and Son Funeral Home, 205 College Ave., Beaver.
