HISTORY: JONATHAN HENRY COOPER and OBEDIENCE BRENT moved to Pineland, Sabine County, Texas in 1854 from Mississippi. They built their first home, a log house, a short distance from Pineland, and later built a larger house north of the present town site on the east side of Highway 87.
JONATHAN HENRY COOPER went into the mercantile business and owned a store and a sawmill at Yellopine, Texas. He was also a farmer and a breeder of livestock. His hobbies were fishing and hunting and he was said to have been one of the best in his community. He was elected Commissioner of the Sabine County Board of Supervisors, and as Commissioner he ordered the County to buy in 1870 the first iron safe for the records of the County Clerk. Later the courthouse burned and all the records were destroyed. Obedience Brent bore him ten children.
Jonathan Henry Cooper was the son of William Gill Cooper and Dempsey Donaho. Jonathan was the grandson of Capt. Robert Cooper and Jane Hamilton of Fishing Creek, South Carolina.

She was born Sunday, January 26, 1930 in Montgomery County, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Rufus A. Bridges and Lela Chesteen Bridges. She graduated from Anguilla High School where she was Valedictorian of her Senior Class.
Mrs. Morgan was employed as a receptionist for the Albert Miller Law Firm in Rolling Fork and later retired from the Pearl Walmart after several years as a cashier. She was a faithful member of the Light House Baptist Church in Richland and will be remembered as a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Milton Thornhill and Arlis Morgan; are, Simeon Carl Thornhill, and siblings, Lorene Chapman, Margie Adams, Willima Bridges, Bill Bridges, Kermit Bridges, Avanelle Evans, Elwin Bridges, Delma Bridges and Thelma Robbins.

Interment will follow at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork MS.
Mr. Thornhill, a native of Carrie (sic), MS, was raised in Rolling Fork where he graduated from Rolling Fork High School. He worked at Central Wholesale and also worked for years at United Wholesale and Lady Bug Florist. Mr. Thornhill was a Godly, loving, husband and father and member of Raymond Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 16 years Linda Thornhill of Jackson; mother Beatrice Thornhill Morgan of Richland; son Raleigh Thornhill of Flora; step-children David Reimers of Florence, Chris Vernon of Jackson and Tahnya Bridges of Byram; grandchildren Devin Reimers, Austin Reimers, Tyler Bridges and Tristen Bridges.

Geneva Joyce Bridges, 76, died Sunday, October 11, 2009, at St. Dominic Hospital.
Visitation will be 5pm-8pm today at Stringer Family Funeral Home. Services will be 2pm Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Gatesville Baptist Church with burial in Gatesville Cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Services in Crystal Springs is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Bridges was a native and lifelong resident of Crystal Springs. She formerly worked for Bernstein Factory, Service Cleaners and Kenwin Dress Shop. Mrs. Bridges was the oldest member of Gatesville Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bridges was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Bridges.
She is survived by son, Donnie Bridges of Crystal Springs; daughter, Darlene Strieff and husband, Bobbie of Crystal Springs; sister, Helen Morgan of Crystal Springs; grandchildren, Misty Prine, Michael Strieff, Mandy Gammill, and Melissa Bridges; and great grandchildren, Brianna and Logan Prine, Mark Anthony Strieff, and Rylie Gammill.

Midge Wilson, 91, of Jonesboro, AR., died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
Midge was born March 25, 1922, to the late Sigle and Thana Ford in Fisher, AR.
She was a loyal military wife that moved around to various places from Japan, California, Ohio and back to Arkansas over her husband's military career. Every where her family moved, she was always able to make their house seem like home no matter where they lived. She was a St. Louis Cardinals and Red Wolves football fan, and she loved to watch Valley View sports.
She was a faithful member of the Christian Valley Christian Church in Jonesboro. She was a selfless lady that had many talents, from cooking home cooked meals to cake decorating, cross stitching to seamstress work, and always had a home that was spotless and inviting to anyone that knew her. The love she displayed to her family over the years, her great sense of humor and sweet smile will be missed, but will never be forgotten.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Whit Wilson; brother, Norton Ford; and sister, Leota Jones.
She is survived by four daughters, Donna (Sonny) Norsworthy of Cave Creek, Ariz., Lynn (Ken) Yarbrough of Jonesboro, Jeanne (Glenn) Moore of Carrollton, Texas, and Jayme Wilson of Dallas; 12 grandchildren, Dee Grantham, Blake and Shawn Norsworthy, Whitney Erickson, Lee Norsworthy, Chris Elmore, Heather Gardner, Dr. Courtney Hoffman, Kendall Gartman, Jay Yarbrough, Britton Wells and Morgan Wagner; 25 great-grandchildren; and brother in-law, Walter Wilson of Harrisburg.
A graveside service was held in McDaniel Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was a Real Estate Agent for a short time in Virginia. Mrs. Fairey graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, VA and attended Pan American Business College in Richmond also.
She is survived by her husband of 67 1/2 years John P. Fairey; children Charlotte (Thomas) F. Ricketts and David (Diann Knobel) L. Fairey; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

SHAFFER:--Following a long period of invalidism with paralysis during which time he had been practically helpless for the past 7½ years, William D. [B] Shaffer, one of Zion's well known citizens, was called from his earthly home on Sunday about 8:15 p.m. During the many years of his illness, Mrs. Shaffer has been tenderly cared for by his daughter, Mrs. Mary Weiland in his own home. Although so long a sufferer from paralysis, his demise was caused by apoplexy.
Deceased was 87 years of age and was born in Madisonburg, the son of Samuel and Catherine Shaffer. In early manhood he married Miss Louise Grimm, who preceded him to the grave some years ago [1917]. To this union the following children survive: Albert L., Mrs. Hiram Lutz [Candace Olive], Mrs. Mary D. Weiland and Mrs. John Corman [Lily Belle], of Zion; N. C. [Newton] of Lock Haven; Mrs. Catherine Rothrock, of Williamsport; Miss Cora Shaffer, of Philadelphia; Mrs. Luther Musser [Fannie May] of State College. One brother also survives, Samuel Shaffer of Rebersburg. 24 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren survive.
William Shaffer was a carpenter by occupation, which he followed for many years; later he took up farming and became quite successful. The funeral will be held from his late home this Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev Shultz of Snydertown will officiate. Interment will be made in Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Hydrick was the daughter of the late Artimus and Nona Brinson. She worked as a telephone operator. She lived in this area most of her life.
