She had been in ill health for the past 15 years. She was born in West Brunswick Township. but had been a resident here for 39 years. She was a member of St John's Reformed Church, of Auburn. She is survived by her husband and three sons: Roy, of Adamsdale: Claude. at home. and Paul, the U Army. Two daughters preceded her in death. She was the last of her immediate family. Funeral Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from her home here. Interment in St. John's Reformed Cemetery, Auburn. The Rev. Lee D. Loos will officiate. D. M. Mrs. Rushing, 78, of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on Monday, March 16, 2020, at home with her loving family by her side. She was born on February 28, 1942, in Brookhaven, MS, to Howard and Gladys Pepper Richardson. She was a member of Johnson Grove Church of Christ; worked for many years as a seamstress at Stahl Urban; and enjoyed reading, gardening and hanging out with friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Oscar H. Rushing; and her daughter, Valerie Gail Rushing.
Survivors are her children, Veronica Edmonds and Bryan Rushing; and grandchildren, Justin Ryan Smith, Brandon Evan Rushing, and Austin Tanner Edmonds; great-granddaughter, Graelyn Isabella Rushing; her siblings, Jeanette Travis, Clyde Richardson and wife Peggy, and Rebecca Richardson Owens and husband Tony; and a host of family and friends.

Roy Whittington, 71 , retired timber buyer, died of heart failure Friday at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Services are at 3 p.m. today at Highland Baptist Church in Crystal Springs with burial in Crystal Springs Cemetery.
Whittington was a Sunflower County native. He was a deacon of Highland Baptist Church.

Tollie William Whittington, Jr., 86 of Perkinston passed away Saturday in Wiggins. Now you very likely do not recognize that name, so let's say it this way: T. W. Whittington went home to heaven February 18th, 2023, from Stone County Nursing & Rehab, with his wife Liz by his side.
He was born July 26, 1936, in Terry, MS, the sixth of twelve children to Tollie William, Sr. and Mattie Nancy (Richardson) Whittington. T.W. grew up in and around the Terry and Byram area, where his family did farm work, and boy did they work. They were usually up before sunrise every morning, and ready for some rest by sundown. They grew and picked corn, cotton and more, plus had a few animals to tend and care for as well. He was always outside, plowing with mules at first, but later with a tractor too. He seemed to like plowing more than anything else, and that may very well be where he gained the nickname "Plowboy". T.W. worked at a local service station while attending Terry schools, and joined the US Army where serving as a cook. That fit him pretty good, since his mother made sure the girls knew all the boy's chores, and the boys knew all the girl's stuff as well. After his honorable discharge, T.W. drove trucks for a while before going to work for Deviney Construction. He made a career there, leading his own crew for many years.
Somewhere along the way, Elizabeth Holiday caught his eye and stole his heart. They dated and were married for the past fifty-some-odd years.
After his retirement from Deviney, T.W. was not one to sit still, so he went to work for Stone County Road Dept. for a few years. On top of that, he kept his goats, chickens, and turkeys, plus started growing greens. He became well-known as the "Turnip Man", sitting out by Hwy 49 in Perk selling bunches of greens. Of course you might trade him for a bunch or two as well, since he was always looking for a good deal. He is remembered as a loving, devoted, hard-working family man, a Christian by faith and member at Berean Baptist Church. T.W. had a great sense of humor and absolutely loved to laugh. He enjoyed working since that's how he was brought up, and to relax...well he worked then too. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed coon hunting, which he did for several years. Without any doubt though, he loved and enjoyed his family, especially all his grandchildren, of which him and Jager spent lots of time together. Probably most everyone has some fond memories of T.W., and there's plenty more than the few mentioned here, like his daily glass of cornbread and milk. Cherish those and as you reflect on them, it won't be long until you find yourself smiling...which is exactly what T.W. would have wanted! He will be forever missed by all whose life he touched.
T.W. was preceded by his parents, Tollie, Sr. and Mattie Whittington; his daughter Jackie Nye, and nine of his eleven siblings: sisters Pauline and Betty Lou Whittington, Fredia Robinson, Jackie Thornton, Ruth Tucker, Deloris Ferguson, and Mary Ann Alford, with brothers Roy and Pete Whittington.
Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth; one son, Don of Kiln, and his remaining siblings, a sister Ann (Everett) Gipson of Vicksburg and his brother Gordon (Alice) Whittington of Walnut Grove. T.W. leaves a legacy of two grandchildren: Austin (Laura) Nye of Saucier, and Ashtin (Matt) Parker of Wiggins, with ten great-grands: Jayden, Jonathon, Chase, Mackenzie, Raelynn, Harlow, Trent, Jager, Bo, and Karstin, along with numerous extended family, friends, and co-workers far and wide.
T.W. had his final wishes established, donating himself to science. His family is honoring those wishes, and set a celebration of his life for Saturday, February 25 at Berean Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM, with Bro. Lance Pearson and T.W.'s nephew, Bro. Gerald Whittington, officiating. Everyone who knew him are encouraged to come reminisce and share memories with the family, and if you're lucky, there may even be cornbread and milk to enjoy in T.W.'s honor.

David Tillman Shiers, 75, of Greenwood, MS, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Golden Age Nursing Home. Services will be held at the Archibald Church of Christ in Archibald, Louisiana, at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 14, 2017.
David was born May 6, 1942 in Franklin Parish, Louisiana, the son of the late Lance and Ollie Shiers. He graduated from Mangham High School in 1960. He entered the workforce for a while before marrying Gloria Weems in 1964 and joining the Army Reserves. After his service to the Army, he began working for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, where he worked for 33 years before retiring in 2000 as a bridge inspection team leader. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family.
David was also a minister in the Lord's church for 35 years. He served congregations in Louisiana at Goodwill, Oak Grove, Newellton, Delhi, Bastrop, and Haile, as well as the congregation in Grand Junction, Tennessee. He was currently a member of the West President Church of Christ in Greenwood, Mississippi.
David is survived by Gloria Weems Shiers, his loving wife of 53 years; his son, Mark Shiers and wife Sheila of Greenwood, Mississippi; daughter, Michelle Cape and husband Jonathon of Hollywood, Maryland; grandchildren, JJ Cape, Alexis Cape, and Tristin Cape of Hollywood, Maryland, and Mary Grace Shiers and Sadie Shiers of Greenwood, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings J.D. Shiers, Lovelle Keene, and L.C. Shiers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, Mississippi. On Saturday, October 14, 2017, a service will be held at the Archibald Church of Christ in Archibald, Louisiana, at 1:00 PM, with visitation from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Larry White and Don DeLukie will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be W.O. Shiers, Jaydee Shiers, Brian Shiers, Jerry Keene, Jessie Shiers, and Jason Huff. Honorary pallbearers will be JJ Cape, Trisitin Cape, Dennis Ray Shiers, and Little Jessie Shiers.

Obituary:
Lena Josephine Richerson of Lubbock, 104, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012. Lena was born in Hugo, Okla., on June 30, 1908. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Seale; sisters, Zora, Ora and Ruby; and husband, Spurgeon Eldridge Richerson.
She lived a number of years in Frederick, Okla., before moving to Lubbock on Feb. 14, 1927, where she lived most of the rest of her life. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1927 and married James Oliver Murphy in 1928. They had one daughter, Betty Jim Heald. She was born to them July 16, 1933. After her husband passed away in 1939, Lena attended a business college and afterwards attended and graduated from a beauty school. She later owned and operated a beauty salon in Lubbock. She later sold her beauty salon and married Spurgeon Richerson April 25, 1948. They lived in Lubbock most of their 40 years of marriage. Lena is a member of Lake Ridge Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Betty and husband Austin Heald; stepson, Bruce Richerson; five grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Mr. Sturkie was born in Orangeburg, a son of the late Dr. Daniel Richard and Effie Olivia Riley Sturkie. Mary Elaine Summers, age 75, passed away on March 17, 2023 in Pass Christian, MS. She was born in Delhi, Louisiana to parents, Melvin E. Wagnon and Alice M. Roberts Wagnon, and was a long time resident of Gulfport.
She previously worked as a legal secretary, and enjoyed going to church and the beach, reading, and word searches.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Paul Summers; daughter, Kimberly Hancock; brother, Melvin Wagnon; and her parents.
Left behind to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Tina Dawes and Alicia Hopkins; brothers, James Wagnon and Steve Wagnon; eight grandchildren, Sarah Gagnon, Ashley Dawes, David Dawes, Kayla Liner, Alyssa Hopkins, Harry Hopkins; and three great-grandchildren, Jasmine Gagnon, Andrew Gagnon and JoAnn Gagnon.

DELHI - Funeral services for Mrs. Georgia Hartley, 75, of Delhi were held at 11 a.m. today in Dunn Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Best and the Rev. Timer Hartley officiating.
Burial was in Sunflower Cemetery under direction of Kidder-Cox Funeral Home of Delhi.
Mrs. Hartley died Friday at her residence in Dunn after a brief illness.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph B. Hartley of Delhi, Jack Hartley of Stuttgart, Ark. and Bennie Ray Hartley of Holly Ridge; six daughters, Mrs. Lela Laird of Pioneer, Mrs. Irene Laird of Tallulah, Mrs. Emma Lee Thompson of Shreveport, Mrs. Divicie McPherson of Delhi, Mrs. Lula Faye Massey of Monroe and Mrs. Dorothy Avery of Bossier City; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Corlien of Crystal Springs, Miss.; 38 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Funeral services for Mr. Marion "Bud" Roberts, age 64, was held at his home in the Harmony neighborhood Tuesday with the Rev. T.W. Talkington, pastor of the Baptist Church officiating. Burial was made in the Old Crystal Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Roberts, who had been a [unreadable] farmer, had not been well, but his condition had not been considered serious. The end came unexpectantly, his son finding him dead in a chair early Monday morning.
Surviving are nine children: Mrs. Roy Strong, Ira Roberts, Utica; Mrs. Nixon, Byram; Mrs. Ables, McComb; Mrs. M.A. Courtney, Cecil, Linnie, George, and Hansell(?) of Crystal Springs; and fifteen grandchildren.

Funeral services for Allen Odem Rushing, of Bogue Chitto, are 11 a.m. on Friday, June 18, at Johnson Grove Church of Christ in Brookhaven, with burial in the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Rushing, 74, died June 15, 2010, at his residence. He was born on July 29, 1935, to Clarence W. Rushing and Zula Roberts Rushing.
He was a retired milk salesman. He served in the United States Army from 1958 until 1960 and was stationed Germany. He was a member of Johnson Grove Church of Christ. He was a member of the Bogue Chitto Masonic Lodge No. 0260.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Elvin (Punk) Rushing; and one grandson, Scott Johnson Jr.
Survivors are his wife, Marlene Rushing; his sons, Doyle Rushing, Darrell Rushing and wife Janis, Darrin Rushing and wife Joanie, and Scotty Johnston and wife Sondra; his daughters, Sherry Jordan and husband Carlos, and Kathi Easley and husband Roger; his brother, Oscar Rushing and wife Virginia; his grandchildren, Chad and Dustin Jordan, Amber Haralson, Rod, Corey and Keri Easley, Brett and Erin Rushing, and Josh, Blake, Karlee and Kayla Beth Rushing; his nephew, Bryan Rushing; his niece, Veronica Edmonds; a special aunt, Loney Sykes; and a special friend whom he loved like a son, Pete Wright.

He served in the Korean War with the United States Army, and was a member of Gum Grove Baptist Church. He was a member Of the Bouge Chitto Masonic Lodge Number 0260.
He was married to his wife Virginia Richardson Rushing for 49 years.
