The 1870 census states her given name was Sarah. (But the 1900 Census, the Marriage Index, and the death certificate for her son, William D. McGahey, and her cemetery monument all show her name as Sallie or Sally.) But it was common for people named Sarah to be given the nickname of Sallie. She was a fraternal twin to William Hydrick.

Mark David Middleton, 20, known by friends and family as David, died Thursday in a car accident in Evanston. Mr. Middleton was preparing to attend Columbia College in Chicago in February to study writing, said his mother, Susan Hydrick Middleton. She said her son recently had considered a career as a journalist. Middleton said her son loved music and movies and had played a role in a community performance of "the Music Man" in 1966. Mr. Middleton played four years on the Evanston Township High School football team before graduating in 1996. He often sailed with his father. Mr. Middleton, who lived in Evanston, was active in his community as an altar boy and Sunday school teacher at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. He also was a lifeguard at Evanston beaches and a Boy Scout camp counselor. "He was just a really good kid," his mother said. "He had a really good sense of humor. He is going to be really missed."

In addition to his mother, survivors of Mr. Middleton include his father Mark; two brothers, Christopher and Philip; his stepmother, Paula A. Massey; and his grandparents, Dr. Robert and Mary Hydrick, and Glenn and Lois Middleton.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 2120 Lincoln St., Evanston. Services will be at 10 a.m. in the church.

The Daily Northwestern Friday, January 9, 1998 Evanston man, 20, dies after auto accident

Mark Middleton died early Thursday morning after his car crashed into a railroad embankment at McCormick Boulevard and Green Bay Road. By Jason Ukman

Amid heavy sleet and snow during pre-dawn hours Thursday, an Evanston man died after his car slammed into a railroad embankment at McCormick Boulevard and Green Bay Road, police said. Mark Middleton was driving north along the snowy and wet McCormick Boulevard at 4:00 a.m. when he crossed Green Bay Road and ran into the adjacent embankment. Middleton, who had just celebrated his 20th birthday, was taken to Evanston Northwestern Health Care, where he died two hours later. Police had not determined the cause of the accident as of Thursday, said Cmdr. Dennis Nilsson of the Evanston Police Department. Middleton had been traveling the slippery street an an "excessive speed" in the 35 mph zone, Nilsson said. There were no signs of alcohol or drugs in the vehicle, and police did not know if Middleton was earing a seat belt. No witnesses were present at the scene, and no other vehicles were involved in the accident, Nilsson said. A passer-by driving down Green Bay Road saw the victim and phoned police. When an ambulance arrived, paramedics were unable to remove Middleton from the vehicle. Officials eventually had to use the Jaws of Life to pry him out.

Middleton, who graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1996, was planning to attend Columbia College in Chicago. Middleton still lived with his mother and two younger brothrs --- an 11-year old and a 13-year old --- on the 2700 block of Crawford Avenue. Betsy Lindberg, Middleton's aunt, said her nephew probably just couldn't sleep and decided to leave the house. "He was prbably just going out for a ride," she said. "I think the accident happened right after he left the house." Lindberg painted a warm picture of her nephew, who attended church and was interested in art, nature and sailing, Lindberg said. She also said her nephew was a lifeguard at the beach during the summers, and he had been a Boy Scout for many years. "He was a good boy," Lindberg said. "He was really looking forward to starting school." Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

David Middleton, 20, Evanston High grad M. David Middleton, 20, a 1996 graduate of Evanston Township High School, died Thursday in an automobile accident at McCormick and Green Bay roads in Evanston. Mr. Middleton had been a fullback on Evanston's football team for four years, helping the team get to the second round of the state playoffs in 1995. He had attended Oakton Community College in Niles and planned to enter Columbia College in Chicago to study writing or journalism, said his aunt, Betsy Lindberg.

Mr. Middleton was active in Scouting for most of his life and served as a counselor at Camp Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan in Wisconsin. He also taught Sunday school. A skilled sailor, Mr. Middleton and his father, Mark, rescued four people when two catamarans capsized in a storm on Lake Michigan six years ago.

Besides his aunt and father, survivors include his mother, Susan; and three brothers, Christophe, John and Philip.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at St. Matthew Episcopal Church, 2120 Lincoln, Evanston. A funeral servic will be held at the church at 10 a.m. Monday.

Friday, January 9, 1998 Motorist killed in early morning crash

Evanston police on Thursday were investigating an early morning car accident in which a 20-year-old man was killed. Police said Mark Middleton of 2714 Crawford Ave., Evanston, was killed when his late model Buick Century slammed into a Metra railroad embankment at Green Bay Road and McCormick Boulevard at about 4 a.m. Thursday. "With the amount of damage to the vehicle, we suspect speed was a factor in this accident," said Cmdr. Dennis Nilsson. "We found nothing to indicate the victim was impaired." Nilsson said investigators believe Middleton, the only occupant of the vehicle, was driving north on Green Bay Road at a high rate of speed when he entered the intersection and continued head-on into the railroad embankment. He said it took rescuers more than an hour to extract Middleton from the wreckage. Middleton, who lived with his parents, was pronounced dead at Evanston Hospital shortly after 6 a.m.

The Evanston Review Thursday, January 15, 1998

Funeral Services were held Monday for a 20-year-old Evanston man who died last week when his car crashed into a rock railroad embankment on Green Bay Road near McCormick Boulevard. The victim, Mark David Middleton of 2714 Crawford Ave., was pronounced dead shortly after 6 a.m. last Thursday at Evanston Hospital. Middleton, who went by the name of David, as apparently traveling east on McCormick Boulevard shortly after 4 a.m. when his car entered the Green Bay Road intersection, jumped the curb and struck the embankment. Firefighters worked for more than an hour to remove the roof of the 1987 Buick Century and free the victim. Police said they found no evidence to indicate Middleton was impaired at the time of the accident.

Middleton, a 1996 graduate of Evanston Township High School, played varsity football and performed in a 1996 McGaw YMCA Brillianteen production of the Music Man. During the summer of 1995, he attend Gary Barnett's fooball camp as well as another footbal camp at Hope College. "He was just a really great kid and will missed. He was kind of a hero to his two brothers and cousins," said his mother, Susan Middleton. Services were held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, where Middleton had served both as an acolyte and Sunday School teacher.

TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - UPDATE: The Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit says an examination of the victims shows they both received at least one gunshot wound during the incident. Due to injuries recieved in the crash and the gunshot wounds, the exact cause of death has not been released.

ORIGINAL STORY: Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide investigators have released the names of two victims and a suspect in an apparent double murder and suicide from the weekend.

The suspect is Taylor McLaurin Powell, 52. The first victim is Powell's wife, Melanie Powell, 51. The second victim is Ronald Larry Hydrick, 53.

Homicide investigators say Sunday after midnight Taylor Powell confronted his wife at Hydrick's home. There was a domestic dispute that escalated quickly and a car chase began on Sylvan Loop Road.

Investigators say Powell ran his wife and Hydrick off the road and they crashed down a 50-foot embankment.

Investigators say when Powell saw his wife and Hydrick didn't survive the crash, he shot himself with a handgun.

Court documents obtained by FOX6 show that Melanie Powell filed for divorce Oct. 17, 2013, citing an "irretrievable breakdown of the marriage."

Investigators say it's going to be difficult to actually know what took place.

"What went on before the chase occurred, there's just not going to be anyway for us to know," Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Sgt. Dale Philips said. "There doesn't appear to be any injuries [that happened] at the house."

Taylor Powell used to be a deputy for the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office. He left the department in 1997 to seek job opportunities outside law enforcement.

The sheriff's office is calling the incident a horrible tragedy.

Uncle Vaudy was truly the comedian of the family. He was always smiling, joking and laughing! We loved being around him as kids. He was the "life of the party" at all family get togethers.
He was an avid fisherman, so it would seem that working in a fish processing plant would have been his dream job...except that working kept him away from actually catchingthe fish. ~~DMH

William was in WW1 - US Marines. He and brother, Jimmy, left town together without telling anyone and went to Memphis where they enlisted on December 28, 1916. They called Graham (Buddy) and told him what they'd done. They were sent to Europe where they became separated.

He was a farmer and a Methodist. Per Jack Hydrick 8/21/94, Homer was robbed of $200 - 300 from his footlocker while in the military. The footlockers had to be kept unlocked for inspection at all times. With pay of only $5 per month, the robbery was a big deal. Later Homer found out who had stolen his money and beat him nearly to death. Homer was thrown in the brig and was never "quite right" after that.

Per Grandson, Mike Hydrick's recollection, he remembered being told that Homer was suffereing from "shell-shock, or what today is known as PTSD

Born on July 26, 1930, she was the youngest of her family. Her mother, Addie, never fully recovered from injuries she sustained during the infamous bus/train wreck in Crystal Springs of 1942. Mary spent her pre-teen years caring for her mother at home.

Surviving are three sons: Denny (Bernadette) of Collegeville, PA; Mike (Deborah) of Brandon, MS; and Gary (Rose) of Pickens, MS plus 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild along with several nieces/nephews.

Denny's career skill was that of electrician which began in 1970 as an apprentice with the IBEW in Jackson, MS. He became a journeyman electrician in 1975 after finishing apprenticeship school as Apprentice of the Year.

He and an uncle, Robert Hawkins, formed H & H Electric during the worst economic times of the late 1970s. When work got slow, they became superintendents for Bechtel Construction first in Colombia, South America. When back in the USA, Denny had superintendent jobs in Nevada, California, Florida and finally, Pennsylvania where he met his second wife, Bernadette. He had to work as an electrician again in order to remain in PA as Bechtel wanted him to travel.

He was hired by General Electric Aerospace in 1988 on their construction team. Denny applied for two reasons: 1) an opportunity for advancement and 2) to go back to college...he was able to attain both.

Denny enrolled in the Electrical Engineering program at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA because he was working second shift with the construction crew. After two quarters (Drexel did not use semesters), he was promoted to project coordinator which was a day job. He went back to Drexel in the Fall, 1989 in their Evening College. He also changed his major to Construction Managment as this was more in line with what he wanted to do rather than engineering. He graduated cum laude in 1994 as President of his Senior Class.

Promotion opportunities came at work as he was quickly promoted to supervisor over maintenance and custodial in a special program/facility on the Valley Forge campus. Soon after he became maintenance supervisor over all facilities in the Valley Forge/King of Prussia area for GE Aerospace which was soon sold to Martin-Marietta (later becoming Lockheed-Martin Aerospace). While supervisor, he instituted the first comprehensive preventive maintenance program and purchased an upgraded, state-of-the-art Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for which he did the majority of setup and data population, even assisting other Facility departments in Colorado, DC/Virginia, California and Arizona. He also instructed company-wide classes on Microsoft Excel and Access. He was promoted to Maintenance Manager in 1999. Force included 45 employees and a budget of about $6 million.

He was a member of the International Facility Manager Association (IFMA) earning their Certified Facility Manager (CFM) designation.

He was also a member of The Association for Facilities Engineering (AFE) earning their Certified Professional Maintenance Manager (CPMM) and Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) designations. Denny was also an instructor for exam preparation classes for each certification. He was instrumental in re-activating the AFE Greater Philadelphia Chapter in 2010 serving as President until 2023. He also held several national board postions including Region I Vice-President, National President, Immediate Past President and Finance Chair.

Denny also served on his township's Municipal Authority for over 10 years and, after moving to an over-55 development, served on the Recreation Board and finally the HOA Board of Directors.
