Date of Birth: Jan. 1870. The 1900 Census shows her date of birth as Jan. 1870; and the 1920 Census shows that she was 50 years old (supporting 1870 as year of birth). The 1880 Census indicates she was 11 years old in June 1880, so her estimated year of birth would be 1869 (also corroborated by the 1910 and the 1930 Censuses). Obviously, the stone has October 4, 1868, but none of the census information supports this month or year of birth.

Shown as deserted November 2, 1862 near Boston Mountains. On Muster Roll of April 1863. Listed as prisoner of war, paroled at Wittsburg, AR on May 25, 1865.

THIRTIETH ARKANSAS INFANTRY
The Thirtieth Arkansas Infantry was organized in the summer of 1862. At least two other regiments were sometimes unofficially known as the Thirtieth Arkansas Infantry, the Twenty-Fifth and Thirty-Ninth regiments.
Like almost all Civil War units the Thirtieth Arkansas Infantry was frequently known by an alternate designation derived from the name of its commanding officer. Names of this type used by or for the regiment appear below.

Edward Hydick is obviously Edward Hydrick (born 1829) the son ofJacob Hydrick of SC.
J. P. is John P. Hydrick Jr. (born 1838) and the baby brother of J. H. (James H. born 1832) who is our lineal descendant. Poor brother Isham (born 1840) was in the same company. He was sent home sick in 1862 and, I believe, died.
In February 1995, Jack D. Hydrick and son Patrick visited Cherry Valley and went to Mosner Cemetery (called Hydrick Cemetery in obituary). G. W. Hydrick is buried next to his father James Hydrick. James' Confederate States of America marker has been stolen.

Prisoner of War
James H. Hydrick was born 1 January 1832 near Bay Village, Arkansas, the second son of John P. and Elizabeth "Betsy" Hydrick. He lived his entire life in and around Hydrick, Arkansas.
James enlisted 20 June 1862 at Pineville, Arkansas. His Civil War experiences were all West of the Mississippi. During one of the twenty-one battles his infantry was in, he was captured and listed as a prisoner of war .On 2 November 1862, James was listed as a deserter, he was probably away attending the death of his first wife (she died 2 November 1862). By April 1863 he was back on the muster rolls. His military service ended when he was paroled at Wittsburg 25 May 1865.
James' brother, Isham Hydrick, enlisted in Company K of the same regiment. James was a merchant and postmaster in civilian life. He married Sara R. Perry with whom he fathered four children: Rebecca Malvina, George Washington, James A. and Florida A. Sara died during the Civil War. After the war, he married Priscilla Emetine Henderson in May 1865. They had three children: John W., James D. and Dovie Ann.James H. Hydrick died in 1898 and was buried in Misner Cemetery, near Cherry Valley , Arkansas.

Mrs. Dovie Sifford, aged 73, member of one of Cross County's pioneer families, died Thursday at Baptist Hospital in Memphis. She was a victim of cancer.
Mrs. Sifford, whose home was in Cherry Valley, was the wife of J. H. Sifford, well-known merchant, planter and banker of this area. She was the eldest member of the Cherry Valley Methodist Church and was active as a Sunday School teacher until her last illness.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs. T. G. Toombes of Cherry Valley and Mrs. W.M. Smith Sr. of Birdeye; four grandchildren, W. M. Smith Jr., J. H. Smith, Mrs.J. H. Johnston, and Mrs. J. H. Quessenberry, all of Birdeye, and ten great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Cherry Valley Methodist Church Sunday afternoon by Rev. J. H. Richardson. Burial was in Tyer Cemetery at Hydrick.
Pallbearers were Howard Beasley, Millard Carter, Ezra Stark, J. R. Cavin,Ronald Barr and Nick Halk.
The Kernodle Funeral Home was in charge.

Jack Russell Hendricks, 61, welder for Hankins Lumber Company, of Grenada, died Friday morning, May 9, at Grenada Lake Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Pryor Funeral Home in Calhoun City with burial in Reedy Chapel Cemetery.
He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Judy Pugh of Batesville and Mrs. Virginia Beavers and Mrs. Clara Hoop, both of Tillatoba; two sons, Jackie Hendricks of Grenada and Jimmie Dale Hendricks of Gore Springs; his stepmother, Mrs. Willie Hendricks of Water Valley; two sisters, Mrs. Joyce Pittman of Water Valley and Mrs. Marie Jennings of Marks; three brothers, Buck Hendricks of Water Valley, and Joe Hendricks of Memphis and Delam Gene Hendricks of Maple Shade, N.J.; and 15 grandchildren.

William P. Herlong, 71, died early Sunday morning at Tuomey Hospital.
Born in St. Matthews, he was a son of Joseph Louis and Annie King Herlong. He was a member of Paxville Methodist Church and Summerton Masonic Lodge. He was a merchant for 40 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Varnie McLeod Herlong; six daughters, Mrs. Robert (Varnie) Rodwell and Mrs. Robert (Farris) Phillips both of Charleston; Mrs. Ben (Gloria) Lewis of Sumter, Mrs. LeRoy (Beverly Nettles) of Lake City, Mrs. Herman (Kathryn) Ard of Manning and Mrs. William (Freddie) Crymes of Paxville; two sons, William P. Herlong Jr. of Co!umbia, Mo., and Don Herlong of Sumter; one sister, Mrs. Alex Rogers of Kingstree; Nineteen grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 4 o'clock this afternoon from the chapel of Shelley - Brunson Funeral Home by the Rev. Jennings F. Williamson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Summerton. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Gaylord. Mendel Broadway, Ralph Reynolds, William Matthews, Dr. Wilson Greene, Dr. Lea B. Givens, James Corbett, Richard Corbett, Derman Stone. Reginald Thames and Barney Collins.
